Our Fantastic Staff

"I believe this is the best staff you'll find anywhere" - Russ

Owner, Russ Marsh is back to what he
loves . . . . teaching kids how to be safe and how to love the water.  Russ has been involved with the swimming world for almost 50 years and has been teaching & coaching kids for over 40 years.  He has coached at every level from 2-year-old beginners to an Olympic finalist.  Russ is a lifetime member of the American Swimming Coaches Association, a longtime member of USA Swimming & is a former world record holder as a member of U.S. Masters Swimming.
He started the ROCK Swim Team.  Before starting Smilefish he was the GM of the largest swim school in Colorado.

If you are coming from the rec center lessons program you may know Beth.  She has been one of the best swimming instructors in the area for many years.  Russ & Beth got to know each other when her now married daughter swam for Russ at ROCK Swimming when she was 7.  Beth's other big involvement in the local swiming world is that during the summer she's in charge of the Cruisers Swim Team.  We're very excited to have her as part of our team.

Lauryn was born in Kansas, spent a few years in California and has been in Castle Rock for 3 years.  She recently graduated from Douglas County High School.  She is the exception to our normal rule of not hiring high school age instructors but she came so highly recommended that we had to give her a chance.  Those of you that have been lucky enough to have her as your kid's instructor know that she was worth taking that chance.  Lauryn has been swimming competitively since 6th grade & swam for Douglas County High School.  She stayed on the Honor for Roll for all four years of high school.

Becca has been in Douglas County most of her life.  She graduated from Douglas County High School in 2012.  She then attended Miami University where she received two degrees in just four years - International Studies & Latin American Studies.  She is now getting her Masters & intends to become an elementary school teacher.  Becca swam competitively from 2nd grade through high school. She has coached with the Castle Pines Village Summer Club Team several times.  Becca too came incredibly highly recommended & most emails concerning her include the work "amazing".

Patrick grew up in Los Angeles, CA and has been involved in swimming his entire life.  He swam competetively though high school, coached for a few years after high school and has been teaching for 12 years.  Patrick comes back each summer to teach at our "Summer Session".  Those of you that have had a chance to have Patrick teach your kids have seen how great he is with the kids and with teaching skills.

Russ has known Kathryn since she was a cute, little 7 year old on the ROCK Swim Team.  She is Beth's daughter.  She swam on the team for several years and finished her competitive swimming years as a member of the Douglas County High School swim team.  Kathryn has been teaching swimming since 2006 & briefly ran a swim lesson program at a community pool.  She also spent a few years working for her mother as a coach of the local summer club team.  She now spends much of her time caring for a baby boy.

Kat is a local girl that attended Douglas County High School.  She started swimming competitively when she was 10 years old and finished her competitive years as a member of the D.C.H.S. swim team.  She has been coaching the local summer club team (the Cruisers) for the past two years and has been teaching swimming for three years.  She was married in September and had an exciting honeymoon when they were evacuated by the US Navy because of the impending hurricane.  We received raving emails about Kat after her first day in the pool.

Suzanne "Zanna" has been invovled with swimming her entire life.  She swam on her high school team and has taught swimming most of the years since.  She has worked at every significant lesson program in the Parker, Castle Rock area.  Suzanne has taught ages from infants to adults.  For a while she coached the younger kids with a local swim team.  Her full time job is a Behavior Technician with DOuglas County Schools (special needs kids).

Not all of these instructors are with us all of the time.  Several of them come and go as their schedule allows.
